What are Enuresis and Encopresis?
Enuresis and Encopresis are both Elimination Disorders that are often diagnosed in early childhood. These disorders occur when an individual repeatedly releases urine (Enuresis) or feces (Encopresis) at inappropriate times or in inappropriate places (i.e., bedding, clothing, floor), either uncontrolled or deliberate. It is important to note that Enuresis is not considered a problematic disorder in children under 5 years of age and Encopresis is not considered a problematic disorder in children under 4 years of age.
Treatment
Cognitive behavioral therapy, specifically behavior modification, has been found to be effective treatment for both Enuresis and Encopresis.
